Measure Twice. Cut Once.

I work at a hardware store. It's not the most glamorous job there is, but it's honest work at a privately-owned business, and probably one of the few places left in the world where customers walk in and greeted by name. Having a dad who could fix anything, I always thought of myself as being handy. But boy howdy am I learning a lot! More than just how to fix toilets and the difference between interior and exterior paints, I learn a lot of little lessons that are applicable to life.

My dad always taught me to measure twice, cut once.

It's not just a good rule for construction. It's a good rule for life, as well. Whatever choices you're faced with, think it through, then re-think it through. Whether it's making a major purchase, committing to volunteer as a sports coach, or walking down the aisle-- make sure that the long-lasting decision you make is really the right one.
It's little things like this that I contemplate while I stock shelves and wait on customers, as well as tidbits of wisdom from the old-timers who frequent our store, that I shall attempt to share here.
